Dolgellau’s best eateries

Welcome to our family owned holiday home blog, we're excited to share our insider knowledge of the local area with you!

If you're looking for delicious food in Dolgellau, you're in luck. This charming town has plenty of fantastic restaurants and pubs that are sure to satisfy your appetite. We couldn’t possibly list them all here. Instead, here are some of our personal favourites:

Restaurants:

Bwyty Mawddach: a pizza restaurant with stunning views over the estuary. They serve the best woodfired pizza around made with locally-sourced ingredients. The restaurant is normally open Wednesday to Sunday with some seasonal changes, it gets busy so remember to book in advance and ask for a window seat.

Tafarn y Gader: bistro & bar serving local produce in a contemporary Spanish style. It’s popular so book ahead. They often have music evening events as well. Nominated for 2022 best restaurants of Wales awards.

Cafes:

T.H. Roberts: this is one of our go to cafes in town, it’s based in the old ironmongery, the setting is fabulous, as are the cakes! It’s dog friendly. It also has a good breakfast and lunch menu. If you need a cake for an occasion you can also pre-order a whole cake.

Y Sospan: in the day this offers a traditional café menu. In the evening it has a bistro menu. Again it’s another interesting building, worth sitting upstairs. We’ve not tried Sunday lunch here yet but hopefully will do soon.

Slightly further afield in Dinas Mawddwy our cleaner has taken over Caffi’r Hen Siop – they offer guests staying at Glasfryn 10% a discount. It’s another great stop if you like cake as they have a tasty selection, sell local crafts. We enjoy stopping by for lunch and a walk nearby.

Pubs:

George III: on the outskirts of town situated on the stunning Mawddach Estuary, this historic pub serves up classic seasonal pub food like fish and chips, as well as local beers and ales. It’s a good stop for a Sunday roast or lunch before a walk on the Mawddach trial. They often have mid-week lunch offers available.

Royal Ship: Another great option for pub food is the Royal Ship. An old coaching inn based in the centre of town.in the centre of town offers a range of hearty dishes like lamb shank and steak pie, as well as a great selection of local beers and ciders. Another place we enjoy visiting for a Sunday roast.

Stag Inn: Another good option for food is the Stag Inn nestled in the back streets of town. This historic pub has been serving for over 200 years - it serves great pizza! Friendly and atmospheric, a great place for lunch.

Cross Foxes: Good quality gastro pub food, modern spacious dining area with outdoor seating. This isn’t in the town so you would need to drive, it’s a good option for somewhere to eat on your way back from a day out.

Check out our other post on pubs.

Take aways:

The Cosy Takeaway is the local fish and chip shop. If you prefer to dine at home and don’t fancy cooking.

When it comes to finding great places to eat in Dolgellau, there are plenty of options to choose from. We would love to hear what you enjoy when you stay at Glasfryn.
